Summer Heat Wave Saviours

Well I don’t know about you but this heat wave we’re having in the UK is KILLING ME. Don’t get me wrong, I like the sunshine and I’m making full use of having a convertible, but I really need a holiday from this heat. For the past month I haven’t been able to escape it. The last week in June I was on my scheduled summer holiday, during which I was glad of the heat about my bones. When we got back, I was weirdly looking forward to some rain and then BOOM – there hasn’t been a drop. Last week I was down visiting family outside of Birmingham and I kid you not, the temp was 30 degrees! Eh, what? Where is the good old British summer? The one where you pray for sunshine, it appears for a glorious weekend and then by Monday everything is back to normal?

I work in an office where there is OBVIOUSLY no air conditioning because it’s SCOTLAND so this heat is simply unbearable. I live in a flat so there is no garden for me to escape into once I get home. It’s just too damn hot.

Until the weather decides to sort itself out again, I have compiled a list of my Summer Heat Wave Saviours. Enjoy.

Coola Sun cream: I love this stuff! It doesn’t smell like a sun cream so you won’t have that identifiable odour hanging about you all day. It’s also not sticky! I’ve been using the SPF Cucumber Moisturiser under my make-up for that extra bit protection 🙂 Hasn’t stopped my make-up sliding off my face though…

Skirts: I have done the unthinkable. I have worn a skirt to work 3 times this week WITHOUT TIGHTS! My mother treated me to a skirt similar to the one in the photo above at the weekend and when I wore it to work on Monday I was loving the slight breeze. I obviously had to then go and buy a few more of these floaty skirts as trousers are just too damn hot for work days.

Ice Lollies: Ahh , my desert of choice. I’m on a self-imposed dairy ban for the next while (long story) so I was miserable at the thought of having to watch Ian eat sweet treats without me. Then I remembered that Ice Lollies can be a desert and I was saved.

Secret Support Camis: I don’t know about you but the last thing I want to do when it’s hot is put a bra on. Solution? Secret Support Camis. These little gems give you just enough support to lounge about the house without a restrictive boulder holster. I am not one of those lucky girls who could get away with it outside my abode, but for a muggy evening, this is my go-to top.

Sockbuns: I have accumulated A LOT of hair on my head and it’s basically like wearing a woolly hat in 26 degree heat. Enter the sock bun! There is no shortage of odd socks at Casa de Bold so I have an array of sock buns at my disposal. Not familiar with this particular do? Here’s a handy link to a lovely tutorial.

Oggi Tumblers: These are smashing! I’ve only been able to find them at TK Maxx (shock) but I think you can get non-branded ones on Amazon. They are basically double insulated cups with a plastic straw which keep your beverage cool. I’ve had ice in one which has lasted 4 hours!

So there you have it – my heat wave essentials. Let me know what your key things to save you from this summer’s sun are in the comments down below!
