You might not know this but I am addicted to awards ceremonies.
That’s right; the Oscars are my crack.
So you can only imagine my delight at waking up yesterday morning to a whole host of articles related to the 2014 Golden Globes! There’s nothing better than giving an in-depth critique of the red carpet looks to get you through a Monday. In light of this I’ve decided to do a series of posts throughout the awards season with my favs and my fails. Obviously this series has to have a name so I’ve gone with The Golden Boldies. If you class ‘judging’ as one of your hobbies then join me from here until the Oscars! Without further ado, I give you the winners of the 2014 Golden Boldie awards (The Golden Globes edition)
Best Dressed: Reece Witherspoon
Well I have to say that I am completely in love with this dress. Reece looks stunning and is vaguely reminiscent of another Calvin Klein number which Jennifer Lawrence sported at the Oscars in 2011. Clean lines, a banging body, and an awesome aqua hue make this my favourite look of the night.
Margot Robbie, Sofia Vergara, Kate Beckinsale & H.R.H Helen Mirren also deserve honourable mentions in the Best Dressed category. Well done ladies!
Best Performance of a Dress in a Supporting Roll: Amy Adams
Don’t even ask me the physics behind this dress, that’s a secret best kept between Amy Adams and Valentino, but I am amazed at how well this seemingly unsupportive dress is keeping her girls in tact! Hats off to you, Amy, and your profound use of double-sided tape.
Best Accessories Award: Sofia Vergara
Sofia Vergara owns this category with that UNREAL turquoise and diamond statement necklace. Teamed with a simple, yet stunning, Zac Posen gown this one’s a total win.
Best Dressed while Eating for Two Award: Kerry Washington
This one goes to my favourite ‘fixer’ Ms Kerry Washington. She was definitely channelling her inner Olivia Pope whilst picking out this Balenciaga number. Whatever fabric that is, I want to swim in it.
The JLaw Wardrobe Malfunction Award: Robin Wright
Too much side boob is never a good thing, and Robin Wright learned that lesson the hard way. A near nip-slip and visable boob tape? Sorry Robin, it just wasn’t your day!
Best Dressed Male: Bradley Cooper
Is there a better looking man in a tux? I don’t think so! Bradley Cooper wins hands-down with this classic Tom Ford number, and the bowtie just melts my heart!
Hot Mess Award: Zoe Saldana
There were a few strong contenders for this award but the outright winner is Zoe Saldana. Usually the epitome of style, Saldana missed the mark by light-years in this Prabal Gurung monstrosity.
Most Ill-Fitting Dress Award: Lena Dunham
Lena Dunham scoops this award in a Zac Posen gown. It’s nice to see her in a bright colour, but the yellow did nothing for her pale skin and the bust area was just TOO TIGHT.
The Double Take Award: Emma Watson
Hands down, Emma Watson was the clear winner in this category. From the front her ‘dress’ is sublime – form-fitting and totally red carpet worthy. Unfortunately when she turns around it’s a different story… LEGGINGS! Yep, our favourite know-it-all deemed it appropriate to wear leggings to an awards ceremony. Cummon Em! Leave that crap at the Teen Choice awards. This is the big leagues… Suit up!
No, Just no Award (in association with Helena Bonham Carter): Jacqueline Bisset
Jacqui may have won a Globe last night but she has also bagged the Golden Bolide “No, Just No” award for this ensemble. If the dress wasn’t bad enough the hair sealed the deal… Ouch!
Most Surprising Turn Around: Emilia Clarke
For me this one goes to Emilia Clarke (or Daenerys Targaryen if you’re being formal). Recently I have seen nothing but a waif draped in ill-fitting smocks but last night she pulled it out of the Proenza Schouler bag.
Spot-On Hair and Makeup Award: Sandra Bullock
Although I was unimpressed with her choice of dress, Sandra Bullock certainly won the beauty awards this year. Enough make-up to show up on camera and a sleek side-pony with a bit of sass make this my beauty look of the night!
Well that’s it for the Golden Globes edition of the Golden Boldies. Join me next time for the SAG awards instalment!
