On Sunday Ian treated me to a cupcake decorating class at Sloans in Glasgow, hosted by the lovely Heather from A Little Promise. She makes the most wonderful cakes and in her class she passed on some handy tricks and tips for decorating cupcakes.
In the 3 hour class we decorated 3 spring-themed cupcakes and in the process learned how to mix fondant icing and create shapes using cutters and tools you have at home! The chick is maybe my favourite… look at that beak!! He’s been taking tips from a Kardashian I think.
We also learned how to ice the cakes to make them look like roses, and how to dome a cupcake which is maybe the most effective but simple thing ever! I can’t wait to get back in the kitchen this weekend so see what I can come up with on my own. If you get a chance, I highly recommend signing up for one of her classes! I booked through Itison but she also posts details on her Facebook page. If anything, pop over there and have a snoop at some of the amazing creations she has already made – they are really spectacular!
And if you’re thinking ‘yeah they look nice, but I bet they taste rotten’ THINK AGAIN MY FRIEND. Her recipe for buttercream is the best I have ever tasted… And I have tasted a lot of buttercream.
