April Crafty Creatives Box

Towards the end of last year I cancelled my Birchbox subscription because I thought that the boxes were becoming more repetitive. I’ve still not worked through my stash of samples but I have missed that little surprise appearing at the door every month! I’ve been looking for a new subscription service for a while now and finally settled on Crafty Creatives. I signed up at the beginning of the month and last week I received the April Crafty Creatives Box!

This is obviously quite different from Birchbox due to it’s contents. Each month Crafty Creatives sends out a kit with a new craft for subscribers to try and this month it was the art of paper quilling. The kit comes with everything you need to get started and a very helpful instruction manual.

I had never heard of paper quilling, or any sort of quilling for that matter, so I did a bit of research before I got stuck in. The theory is that you roll strips of paper in different ways to create shapes and patterns which can then be glued to cards or boxes and even furniture. Did you know that it was actually a popular pastime of 18th century Ladies of leisure as it was deemed not too taxing for their quiet dispositions… Being an demure wallflower myself (HA) I gave it the good old college try. The result? It’s not really for me! I’ve never really be into paper crafts so I wasn’t too optimistic to begin with but that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the experience of learning a new skill.

Artistic, no?

As you can see from the picture above, I’m not exactly a natural at paper quilling. I kind of get the idea but I just don’t think it’s for me. Even though I’m not thrilled with the April box, I plan on getting May’s instalment to see if I like it any better. I love the idea of getting a new craft project every month so watch this space!
