Summer Holiday

We’re all going on a summer holiday… Well, we did 🙂 A while back I spoke about how we booked a holiday using Voyage Prive and I’m very happy to report that it was fabulous! We stayed at the THB Reserva Del Higueron in Fuengirola which is about 30 minutes from Marbella. I can’t seem to say the word Fuengirola so when anyone asked me where we were going I just mumbled and then said ‘it’s near Marbs.’ Sue me. imageThe weather was fabulous and the hotel, while it took a little bit of time to get used to how ‘modern’ it looked, was beautiful. Our room was bights and all open plan… so open that the bath was half in the bedroom. The star of the show, however, was the rooftop pool with its round beds instead of the standard lounger and beautiful views. imageWe were there on a half-board basis so we had breakfast and dinner in the hotel most nights. While I know this is not for everyone, it was kind of necessary in this case because there really isn’t much in the surrounding area. My only grips about the whole place is the location and if I could do it all again I would insist on renting a car. imageWhen we did venture out of the hotel, leaving the pools and spa behind, we travelled into Marbella and spent our time people-watching in cafes which is my favourite holiday past-time. Marbella’s Old Town is really cute though I feel it’s maybe past its heyday? I hear wonderful things about Puerto Banus though. I definitely think we would go back to this part of Spain but stay closer to this area and the beach. image imageAfter our 5 days in the sunshine we travelled back home. Our flights were from Manchester which wasn’t a problem on the way out, but when your flight gets in at 12.30am and you have to travel back to Edinburgh during the night, things get a bit iffy. Why not stay the night in a comfortable hotel and travel back up well rested the next day I hear you cry! Well I had accidentally double booked myself and had to be on another flight BACK TO SPAIN (Barcelona this time) from EDINBURGH the day after we left the country the first time. Totally ill planning on my part but I made it and I would like to thank my Filofax and several cups of double shot coffee for getting me through that day.

What was I doing back in Spain? Well it was my friends hen weekend so 12  gaggling girls crammed into a swish apartment in Barcelona for a long weekend of frolics. I think there is only 1 picture I can safely show you and thankfully it sums up the whole weekend.10464324_4270895026651_4735739056324314080_nWhen I got home from Barcelona on the Tuesday, I had the rest of the week off from work which I spent happily sewing. On one of the days where I was forced to put outdoor clothes on, we had a fun day out at New Lanark Heritage site. I whipped out the big girl camera and we walked the trail to the waterfall where I moaned about being too hot and made Ian carry my belongings. I asked if he would carry me as well but apparently that was ‘ridiculous.’image image image image imageSo that was my 2 weeks of fun! I packed a crap-tonne of stuff in which I’m pretty pleased about. We might be going away on a small mini-break again at the end of August for my Birthday – it’s not set in stone but watch this space!
