Sew Your Own Wardrobe: Delphine Skirt Reveal

FINISHED! And with time to spare 😉 I’m so glad I chose a relatively simple project this month. The Delphine Skirt from Tilly’s Book Love at First Stitch was basically a joy to make. From cutting out it took all of an 90 minutes to finish, however this would have been even less if I didn’t sew the zip in the wrong way the first time round. That’s what you get when sewing with Sons of Anarchy on in the background (Charlie Hunnam, AMIRIGHT?) I wasn’t even bothered about unpicking as everything else went so smoothly.

Can we just take a minute to talk about this fabric. I got it a while ago from Remnant Kings and I believe that it’s actually meant for upholstery, but when I seen the print I knew I had to have it!

There’s not really much to say about the construction of this skirt; 3 skirt pieces and an interfaced waistband don’t really make for a epic tale but as I said the whole process was really easy and very therapeutic for a Saturday morning. My pattern matching leaves a lot to be desired though… I’ll get there one day!

As I wanted this to be a really quick and easy project I just used the only zip I had on hand which was thankfully blue but not the ideal shade. It also not an invisible zipper but I can live with it. Call it a design element.

It’s not actually that wonky IRL, I was just standing like a moron. Also note the poor waistband matching that I’m not overly fussed about because it’s at the back and really not that noticeable when I’m wearing it. All in all this is a particularly comfortable skirt which is a nice addition to my work wardrobe 🙂 I’m calling it a success!

  1. funny you mentioned the zipper because i’ve seen a lot of totally exposed zippers on clothes this fall/winter… so i think you’re just fashion-forward and don’t even know it! 😉
