SYOW: Christmas Kim Dress

Ho Ho Ho!! I know it’s a bit late but I have the Christmas edition of my Sew Your Own Wardrobe series ready kids! Obviously since it’s December, what better thing to make that a snazzy Christmas dress! Back in November (I think) the By Hand London girls released their new pattern, the Kim dress and I pre-ordered it right away! I’m a sucker for a tulip wrap skirt.

Happy mail day! #kimdress @byhandlondon #dressmaking #isew

I actually liked the pattern so much that I was more than happy to invest in the beautifully packaged, printed version instead of the usual PDF nonsense. The issue is now that I decided to trace my size instead of cutting directly into the pattern so I still found myself taping bits of paper together. Sake.

Anyway I’ve been pondering what kind of fabric to make this in for A WHILE, and finally I decided on some Blackwatch tartan from one of my favourite fabric haunts, Fabric Bazaar.

I’m planning to make variation 1 and I’ve already cut out the pieces to make a muslin. I can already tell I’m going to have to do a full bust adjustment so if anyone out there can point me in the right direction of how to do one on this particular bodice, I would be eternally grateful! Wish me luck 🙂

  1. I would follow the instructions on the Elisalex sew along on the bhl blog. Oddly enough I needed 1.5″ fba on Elisalex but none on the kim.
If you can help me get rid of my armhole gape I’d be eternally grateful 😉 looking forward to seeing your finished article.

    1. Ooh! Thanks for the tip 🙂 Didn’t realise they has the same bodice type, I’ll check it out! Gah I’m afraid I have ZERO advice to give when it comes to fitting… Total noob when it comes to that haha! How did your shirt turn out in the end?
